Marshall – Jim Lough is more than a familiar, friendly face from the Marshall community. He’s a lawyer, a father, a son, a husband, a friend, a teammate, and an inspiration. Jim Lough, a 1997 graduate of Marshall High School has been battling cancer with perseverance and an unmistakable smile for almost 8 years. On November 9, 2014, Schuler’s Restaurant and Pub invites you to attend “Dinner for a Cause” to show your support for Jim and his family.
A brief history.
In 2007, Jim was diagnosed with leukemia three months before graduating from Law School. After two rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, he beat cancer for the first time and was in remission. That year, he proposed to his now wife, Sandi, and graduated law school. Only a year later, Jim and Sandi discovered the leukemia had returned, just two months before Jim was scheduled to take his Law Bar exam. More chemotherapy, another stem cell transplant, and Jim’s undeniable will, put him back in remission. Jim soon passed the Bar and he and Sandi were eventually married. The couple soon discovered they were having twins — and that Jim’s leukemia had returned for a third time. Miraculously, he recovered and went back into remission just before the birth of their two children, Madison and Beckett. The leukemia would return two additional times, and Jim beat it each time with his perseverance, the help of physicians at MD Anderson and his father, who underwent a bone marrow transplant for his son. Just a year later, in May 2014, Jim and Sandi learned the leukemia was back, yet again. The physicians feel his body is not strong enough for more chemotherapy treatments and transplants. He is currently in treatment at MD Anderson, participating in a clinical study to try to fight this ongoing battle.
The battle has just begun.
