I’m not a food critic, and I don’t even play one on TV. So don’t confuse me with those food show guys (although my classic car is cooler than the one that other guy on Food Network has) but I do like to eat.
I’m just the sports editor at the Enquirer and that means I’ve eaten at a lot of different places while on the road covering games. So getting to sample some of the best food in the Battle Creek area seems like a good idea. I was able to trick the Enquirer’s WOW editor Annie Kelley into letting me do it, so here is Bill’s Bites.
What to do about Valentine’s Day? It’s a big question every year. Flowers? A good touch. Chocolates? Well, it’s food so we’re getting closer. But the best way to spend Valentine’s Day is at a nice, cozy restaurant with some good food and even better desserts.
As we get closer to Valentine’s Day, the pressure is on for Bill’s Bites to come up with the perfect place and perfect food to put a smile on our very own valentine — my wife Missy.
With great atmosphere, just the right mood lighting, a name-brand that impresses, plus a decadent dessert menu, the choice for Bill’s Bites on this Valentine’s Day was Schuler’s Restaurant in Marshall.
One of Michigan’s iconic locations, Schuler’s has one of the best overall menus around. But the dessert menu was the target of Cupid’s arrow on this visit — making my very own high school sweetheart/now wife smile with every bite.
The romantic thing to do was to share a dessert, and that was the plan. But the choices were so good, we couldn’t pick just one. So going with Schuler’s Signature Coconut Snowball and the restaurant’s Baker’s New York Style Cheesecake meant there was more food love to go around — making for a sweet and tasty date worthy of Feb. 14.
