Larry Schuler, a fourth generation member of the Schuler’s Restaurant family, followed the long-standing tradition of ‘working’ at the restaurant since childhood and has been involved in the restaurant industry ever since.
Encouraged by his grandfather, Win Schuler, and father, Hans, Larry pursued a broad, well-rounded work experience in the field of hospitality management. In 1982, he joined the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa, California where he learned the wine making process and business. Larry was then employed as part of the start-up team for the then new Westin Hotel Galleria, serving as restaurant manager in three theme restaurants and as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager for the 440-room luxury hotel.
Larry returned to Michigan in 1986 and served as Vice President and General Manager of Schuler’s in Marshall, MI and subsequently as owner and operator of Schu’s Grill and Bar in St. Joseph. MI. In 1994, he moved full time to St. Joseph, MI, and now serves as President of Schu’s Hospitality.
Larry is a former Chairman of the Michigan Restaurant Association and Pacesetter United Way. He is a winner of “Michigan’s Make a Difference” Citizen Award. Larry served as a trustee of the Berrien Community Foundation. He remains an active and passionate fundraiser for the American Cancer Society after losing his wife, Molly, to a ten-year battle with cancer.
